Welcome to the planning page. Here you will find various tasks such as magazine aesthetics, poses and costumes, drawn magazine drafts, digital magazine drafts and photos that I have taken myself.
MAGAZINE AESTHETICS
Drawn Magazine Layouts
|
With these drawn drafts, I wanted to see how a long shot of my artist would look for the front cover.
With the first contents page draft I decided to try and use a layout which I had seen in alot of magazines, as it includes a main image with contents on the left and another image at the bottom of the page with more contents next to it.
With the second contents page draft, I decided to go with another layout which I had seen on many magazine which includes a main image and contents around it. |
With these drawn drafts, I decided to continue to use long shots for my front cover artists, although I added props such as headphones to see how they would fit in.
With the third contents page draft, I wanted to see how the main image being a two shot would suit the page. I decided to use a layout that was similar to the first contents page draft, although I had used a different colour scheme.
With the fourth contents page draft, I decided to use the same layout as the second draft, although the main image is now a two shot and the page uses a different colour scheme. |
With the double page drafts, I wanted try out various different layouts, camera shots and designs. With the first two drafts, I tried to create an engaging setting for the artists that was going to be featured on that page. With the last two drafts, I went with more simpler designs, both drafts have different layouts and colour schemes.
Digital Drafts
Digital Front Page Drafts
The Ideal Colour Scheme of my magazine will be Red, Black and Blue
|
With this digital draft I had decided to put the subject of the main image right in the middle of the cover, under the masthead. The image will ideally be a long shot of the subject, the subject will also have an intimidating expression ad pose. I had also decided to put the cover lines on both sides of the draft. I had also decided to place the selling line above the masthead and the website and dateline beside it and the puff will go on the right hand side corner of the magazine,
|
With this digital draft, I had the idea of placing the main cover line diagonally across the subject of the main image, although this may change during the production of my magazine. The main image of the subject will most likely be a long shot. The masthead will be placed near the top of the magazine, with the selling line above it. The masthead will also either go above or in front of the model. I had also decided to place the cover lines along the left hand side of the draft, along with the puff and the website going at the bottom. The barcode is currently at the top, but that is highly likely to change.

Digital Contents Page Draft
|
With this draft, I had the idea of having a dominating image with a few smaller images below it, with their page numbers and content on them. The main image will be of the same person who is on the front cover, my double page artist will also be featured on this contents page draft. I had also decided to place the editor's note on the right hand side of the page and the competition details at the bottom, although I may swap them around. I also want to have a smaller version of the front cover on my contents to go with the subscription details section.
|
With this draft, I had a more simple idea in which a main image would dominate the page. I also decided to place the masthead of the magazine, as well as a contents title at the top of the page, with the contents and page numbers mainly going down the left hand side of the page and a few more at the bottom. I had also decided to place another image of my double page artist on the bottom left hand side of the page and the editor's note on bottom right of the page.

Digital Double Page Drafts
|
With this digital draft, I had thought of going with a simple design with having my main image on the left hand side of the page and my main article and other features on the right hand side. I had also decided to keep the design original by placing the headline at the top of the page.
|
With this digital draft, I decided to go with a similar design in which the main image and headline were on one side of the page and the main article and other features were on the other side. However, I had decided to place the pull quote near the main image of my artist in order for it to look like the artist is actually saying the quote.

The woman in this photo is wearing a black and grey top with various writing all over it. She is wearing it in a way in which she is showing it off aswell as herself. This kind of clothing is associated with this genre of music as it is about being different and not being afraid to show it.
